Halocho #244 - Fasting on Shabbat is forbidden

One should not abstain from food on Shabbat in order to fast - even for a few hours.
Even without any intention of fasting, one shoud try eating before midday.

  1. It's a real paradox when it comes to Shabbos/Yom Tov morning because since according to Halacha one is forbidden to eat or drink (except for basically water, coffee or tea without milk or sugar) before davening; but on the other hand, it's forbidden to fast then even if just to midday when in E.Y. for example it's before 11:30AM in part of winter. Even if let's say drinking water before davening is acceptable in terms of not fasting, I understand there are those who will eat before Shabbos/Yom Tov davening, like Mezonos, as the davening takes much longer and ends later than weekdays, but will first say Berachos & Krias Shema before eating. What is your take on this?
